IMPACT Projects: boosting employment for people with learning disabilities.
Under the theme of boosting employment for people with learning disabilities, we have been successful in securing funding from the UK IMPACT Centre to run two projects.
Both projects were established to address key challenges in delivering the North Wales Supported Employment Service for people with learning disabilities
IMPACT is the UK’s national centre for improving adult social care by making sure evidence leads to real‑world change. It brings together research, lived experience and frontline practice to help organisations deliver better, more consistent support.

2024 to 2025
Family-carer perspectives on employment for adults with learning disabilities
Delivery Model: Facilitator
Lead Partners: Anglesey and Gwynedd County Council
Led by Dr Soracha Cashman, this project explored the often‑overlooked experiences of families and carers, focusing on their views about paid employment for their adult children with learning disabilities.
The facilitator worked co‑productively with families, carers and people with learning disabilities to create practical resources designed to help overcome the barriers and challenges identified.

2025 to 2026
Accessible recruitment and retention of adults with a learning disability
Delivery Model: Demonstrator
Lead Partner: Conwy County Borough Council
Led by Soracha Cashman and Yvonne Phelps, this project supports the Inclusive Conwy Plan 2024–2028 and strengthens the council’s commitment to inclusivity. Building on a small pilot with the Denbighshire and Conwy Supported Employment Service Team, the project aims to help Conwy Council lead by example by co‑producing a culture of equity, accessibility and fair employment. It focuses particularly on improving internal employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities within Conwy County Borough Council.
