The Ambition Party – Creative Rights & Advocacy
In 2022, North Wales Together and TAPE Music and Film supported a group of people with learning disabilities to explore a powerful idea:
If politicians have power, why can’t people with learning disabilities have their own political party?
While it didn’t become a real political party, The Ambition Party used this idea to explore rights, voice, and inclusion through the creative arts.
They designed and produced the following suite of resources for use by a training team comprising people with learning disabilities.
Project objectives:
- Deliver training based on lived experience
- Create volunteering and job opportunities for people with learning disabilities or autism
- Inspire professionals in social care and education through motivational speeches
- To increase knowledge and skills of the social care workforce, education staff and communities
Project Outcomes:
- Improve access to employment for people with a learning disability
- Improve citizen-led and family involvement
- Development of support approaches that meet people’s needs, helping them achieve their aspirations and promoting well-being.
- Developing skills and introducing new learning for people with a learning disability• People with a learning disability will report they have increase confidence enabling them to manage their own workload
These materials have been trialled. Maybe one day, their ambition of becoming a Community Interest Company set up and run by people with lived experience to deliver training could be realised?
